Maguire is England’s weak link, says Czech striker

The Czech Republic are hoping to exploit a perceived weakness in England's defence by targeting centre back Harry Maguire during their Euro 2020 qualifier on Friday, striker Matej Vydra has said. Vydra, who also plays for Burnley, said his club had employed a similar strategy when they faced Maguire's Leicester City team in the Premier League this season and the approach paid dividends with the defender being sent off early on.

Alexander-Arnold out of England squad with back injury

Liverpool right back Trent Alexander-Arnold has withdrawn from the England squad for their European Championship qualifiers due to a back injury, the Football Association said on Wednesday. The defender had been nursing the injury and despite making progress, it is unlikely he will be fit for Friday's home match against the Czech Republic or Monday's game in Montenegro, the FA said.

Skipper Morgan extends Leicester deal until 2020

Leicester City defender Wes Morgan signed a one-year contract extension to keep him with the Premier League team until the end of the 2019-20 season, the club said on Monday. The 35-year-old Morgan, who lifted the Premier league title in 2016, has been captain for nearly seven years and made his 700th senior appearance in the 2-1 win at Burnley on Saturday.

Former Netherlands, Saudi Arabia and Australia coach Bert van Marwijk has been appointed to succeed Alberto Zaccheroni in charge of the United Arab Emirates. PSG win legal battle with UEFA over FFP investigation

Paris St Germain have won a legal battle against UEFA after European football’s governing body tried to reopen its investigation into the French club's spending on transfer fees and wages. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) said on Tuesday it had upheld PSG’s appeal against UEFA on the grounds that the body took too long to review its own decision to clear the French champions of breaking Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.

Second-tier Championship clubs Birmingham City and Aston Villa accepted fines of 5,000 pounds for failing to control their players in a fiercely-contested derby match earlier this month, the English Football Association (FA) said on Monday.
